Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

Sermon Text: Romans 8:15 (Chosen for God’s Household)

Usually, when someone in the secular world tells you that you are adopted, it is meant to say that you don’t belong in the household. When God tells us we are adopted, He is saying that He chose us before the foundation of the world so that we may enter into His home eternally. You belong with your heavenly Father because He choses you to belong with Him. You were a runaway from Him, living under sin and being enslaved to it. But God chose you in Christ to receive His Holy Spirit. Having received this Spirit of adoption, when you cry out to your heavenly Father, you are truly doing so as His child. Sin as your enslaver is no longer master over you. Instead, you have a Father and a heavenly home. Come in and have the Lord’s Supper at His table.
