Palm/Passion Sunday
Sermon Text: Matthew 27:52-53
Some of the dead in Christ arose at his death and, following his resurrection, went into the city of Jerusalem to proclaim life in Christ. Why the delay? We don’t know the exact reason why, but we can say that the message of our resurrection in Christ and the defeat of death was known to the risen saints at their gravesides. And when Christ arises and himself enters Jerusalem, there is a new Triumphal Entry where Jesus is accompanied by risen saints. Similarly, the saints in heaven now enjoy eternal life in Christ but we too have to wait for another Triumphal entry–the Second Coming of Christ when he descends from heaven to bring his paradise. They are silent to us right now, but as surely as Christ died on the cross for new life in us, we will see our deceased loved ones come with Christ in the end.
