Sermon

Sermon Text: Luke 12:35-40
Jesus tells us to stay awake as his servants. On New Year’s Eve, we stay awake to see the new year and have to combat sleep to get there. Jesus tells us to “stay awake” in the faith by living it out so we do not “fall asleep” in unbelief before he comes again. In order to stay awake, we should go to the source of our wakefulness: Christ’s word. He roused us from death in sin to new life in faith. Staying in his word keeps us awake in the faith. The Light of Christ has come to us and keeps us awake by grace. Therefore, stay away from evils and temptations so as not to cast a shadow over his Light in you. Lastly, when you hear too much chatter from the world that conflicts with Christ, causing you to fall asleep in unbelief, retreat to the Church where the Word and Light of Christ are abundant. Jesus has chosen you to be his servant that he may serve you eternally.
