Sermon

Sermon Text: Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14

Daniel sees one like a Son of Man will descend with an everlasting kingdom to reign over the earth. An impressive image at the end of the age–the end where we also see the dead raised in Christ, but this is hardly what we think of when we think of the abilities of a son of man. But when Jesus uses the title, he is referencing this passage in Daniel to show that Son of Man is indeed a divine title. Otherwise, we associate sons and daughters of men as those who face the same issues as their forefathers complete with hard work, fading flesh, and inherited sin. Christ as one like a Son of Man is like us in every way, except without sin on account of his divinity. So when Christ dies, he also raises himself up from the grave and thus raises those who share in human flesh and in him through faith. His kingdom is where everyone in the faith will live eternally–including those we have buried, those we love, those who are being born now, and those we have never met.
