Isaiah 7:10-17 (Sermon Text)
Sermon
Jesus is Immanuel, God-with-us. He came to be with us on Christmas morning in the past and he will come on the Last Day to bring heaven down to earth in the future, but what about the present? How is God with us now? He is certainly present with us in His Word and Sacraments, as He promises, yet we want Him to be with us more personally. In the Lord’s prayer, we pray for God to bring Him and the heavenly kingdom down to us. In truth, God is present with us in a personal way with prayer. It is holy conversation where we know our Lord to be with us. Even if we think He is being silent, He is not, for He still speaks to us in His word. But for more direct speech, we look forward to when Christ comes on the Last Day to dwell with his people forever.
