Fourth Sunday in Lent Sermon
Sermon Text: John 9 (Growing in Spiritual Sight)
Growth in the Spirit is not an instantaneous event but a continuous process by God’s grace. Jesus healed the man born blind who had his physical eyes and spiritual sight opened by Christ, but went through trials where he gradually understood more of Christ until he was confronted by Christ and could confess his grace even more. We were baptized into Christ that we might see him as the Light of the World, but we spent time learning in faith. We also learn that not everyone stands up to persecution and we will be tested as if by fire. Yet, as we see how much Christ loves and forgives us, we can hold fast to our confession of how great his love and forgiveness is. We are confronted by this in worship as we see Christ more and more at work in us, shaping us to look more to his love and grace.
