Sermon Text: The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns (Hymn)
The hymn is ancient although the English translation is only a century old. Regardless, it presents some great beauty in our reception of faith. Our King comes with light more magnificent than what we witness with the dawning sun. That’s beautiful. But what coming of Christ is this? It is the second coming. It’s not when he is born as a child to die crowned with thorns. This is Christ crowned with glory like the sun to bring about the resurrection of believers in the beauteous image of his resurrection. Beauty is given to those who have died in the faith where the ugliness of death is swept from them and the freshness of eternal life invigorates their risen corpses. There is nothing of death in them anymore, only unity under Christ where all those in the faith may live in our King forever.
