Sixth Sunday after Pentecost
Sermon Text: Psalm 145:5 (Meditation Speaks)
A common misconception is that meditation is all about “clearing your mind” or focusing on nothing. That’s not Christian nor biblical. Christian meditation is all about dwelling in the Word and works of God. Even the words translated as “meditate” in scripture literally mean “to speak or declare”. That’s because our meditation as Christian is all about how God loves and saves us that we may have life. Meditating is living in the life which is received through Word and Sacrament. This means worship services are the greatest meditative practices we have which look to the sacraments, proclaim the Word of God, and use our words and songs of praise and thanksgiving. In our private devotions, we can also call to mind events outside of scripture where the Lord has blessed our lives. This could be when the Lord healed you, placed you in the right time or place, or gave an answer to prayer. The Lord is always at work and we can always meditate by proclaiming this love for us.
