Fifth Sunday after Pentecost

Sermon Text: Romans 7:13 (Holiness, Purity and Sin’s Corruption)

God is good and holy, and He blesses us with goodness and holiness. Not only can you say, “I am a good person,” because you are blessed with God’s goodness, you can also declare, “I am a holy person–a saint,” because the Lord has made you holy. We might shy away from claiming either of these things since we are both saints and sinners. The sinful nature in us seizes the opportunity to corrupt us, even with what is good like God’s Law. The Law says “don’t” and sin says “do”. This does not mean the Law itself is corrupted nor that God has failed to grace us with His goodness or holiness. He has made us holy to remove us from sin’s corruption. When sin desires you to follow its commands, declare, “I am holy for God has made me holy.” Sanctify yourself with prayer and scripture. The Lord is holy and He makes you holy.
