Seventh Sunday of Easter

Sermon Text: Acts 1:15-20

Peter calls for the replacement of Judas. This is fairly ironic considering both of them betrayed Jesus. What’s the difference? Both men felt ashamed, but Judas focused on his sin and punished himself instead of trying to reconcile with our Lord. Peter turned to Christ and sought after him, and thus was found in Christ’s life and forgiveness. We too were bought by Christ’s sacrifice and have been made new creations in him. When we sin, in a sense, we betray Christ. We should not go the route of Judas by living in the remembrance of sin. Instead, we should be like Peter and live in the forgiveness of Christ. Jesus is faithful when we are faithless and he will constantly call us into repentance and salvation.
