Christmas Day
Sermon Text: John 1:4‐5 (Christ’s Light overcomes Darkness)
Jesus is the Light of the World who darkness cannot overcome. He gives us the life and hope we need to get through the evils of this world and greet God face to face in the end. Darkness cannot stop him just as certainly as darkness cannot stop natural light. For darkness is nothing–literally an absence of light. As soon as there is light, there is no longer darkness. Similarly, as soon as there is Christ, there is no sin in his presence. For sin is nothing–an absence of God; or perhaps we can say sin is a moving away from God toward nothingness. There are still good things in this world but sin corrupts them. But Christ comes to dispel the gloom of our sin as light dispels darkness. He comes that our sin may be vanquished.
