Last Sunday of the Church Year

Sermon Text: Luke 23:28‐29

Jesus paraphrases how a sinful world thinks by saying it would be a blessing not to have children when there is suffering going on. But those in Christ know how much of a blessing it is to have babies and how blessed it is for anyone, regardless of age, to become a child of God in baptism. Receiving baptism is to receive many blessings of God, such as the Holy Spirit who dwells within you to work against the evils of the world and your sinful flesh. The world might say a person is as valuable as their quality of life or bank account (“abort children that would be born into poverty”), but God has made you to be valuable–to be a blessing. And the greatest proof of your value is the price God was willing to pay to redeem you from sin and death. He paid the price of His own blood when our Lord Christ shed his life for you on the cross. Therefore, your life is as valuable to God as His own. Show this value by being the blessing God made you to be to the world.
