The theme for the Third Sunday of Advent is “joy” but joy in the New Testament scriptures is not about being happy but knowing that Jesus Christ is bringing us out of suffering into glory. For now, we should look to the saints who were steadfast in suffering, like Job. When Job spoke, he openly proclaimed his grief and his desire for God to reverse his unjust suffering. Like Job, we are forgiven our sins on account of Christ. We cannot be punished for sins which are forgiven, therefore we suffering the evils of the world unjustly. Therefore, our hope remains in the Lord to deliver us from the evils of the world as He promised. Our joy is knowing that our salvation when Jesus comes again is assured as the arrival of Christ on Christmas Day
